new siding installationNew siding isn’t something many homeowners regularly buy. Because it’s not something people have regular experience doing, there many unknowns. Once you do your research and have decided on the style, color, and type of siding, you need to make sure the contractor you’re hiring is the right contractor to install your new siding. Here are three questions to ask that will help you choose the right one.

1.      What is Your Siding Experience?

Hiring a company who just started installing siding or worse, doesn’t install it themselves but rather outsources it, is a mistake. Ask your contractor how long they’ve been installing siding, what brands they install and how long they’ve been installing the brand you’re interested in. You want an experienced siding company who can do the job right. You don’t want someone who outsources their work to install it in case you have an installation issue down the road, you may find that the installer points fingers at the person who sold it and the person who sold it points fingers at the installer. When that happens, your problem may never be resolved.

2.      What Workmanship or Installation Warranty Do You Offer?

No matter what sort of home improvement you have done to your home, your contractor should offer a workmanship or installation warranty in writing. Ask what theirs is, how long it lasts, and what it covers. The manufacturer’s warranty won’t cover installation. If the manufacturer deems that the reason you’re having issues with their product is faulty installation, you want to have some protection.

3.      What is Your Insurance Coverage?

We’ve said many times that you should only hire an insured contractor. This is true anytime you hire someone to work on your home, inside or out. The contractor should have liability and workman’s compensation insurance. Without liability coverage, you end up paying if they damage yours or your neighbor’s property. Without workman’s compensation insurance, you may have to pay for a workman’s injuries if he’s hurt on your property.

Protect yourself and your property by hiring only an experienced and insured siding contractor. Hiring someone with experience in installing new siding will help yours last and look great.
